Australian cops just wrote their own laws. Now they’re running amok drunk on power, indecently assaulted a young mother

As we reported on August 18th, Australia’s New South Wales government instructed the police to draft their own laws to give them the power they wanted to enforce Sydney’s draconian Covid restrictions.

It’s not unusual for lobby groups to have a hand in drafting laws. Arguably, this is an important part of the process because you need the politicians to understand the impact on the industry or organization. But an organization with carte blanche to write the rules is obviously going to give themselves as much power as they think they can get away with.

That’s precisely what the NSW police did; they gave themselves the power to arrest anyone in the state for any reason. The result is a police force drunk on power and out of control.

Usually it would be “a few bad apples” but there seem to be hundreds of bad apples abusing their power.

A guy going by the YouTube handle of Aussie Cossack has been covering the insanity going on in Sydney. Since demonstrating how corrupt, abusive, and ignorant the police were, he’s been targeted for constant harassment. The police issued him with an FPO (Firearm Protection Order) which gives the police the power to detain and search him, his vehicle and his home at any hour of the day or night without a warrant.

He’s become famous in Australia and people started sending him YouTube videos of police abuse and brutality. This trickle of videos sent to him appears to have turned into a torrent following the new police laws.

Here’s one of the worse examples: a young woman was arrested and stripped half naked for no apparent reason.

This is just the start. Victorian police have been out of control for a year now. It looks like the new normal will be the gestapo demanding papers and making random arrests.

We used to think Americans saying “You shouldn’t have given up your guns” were just a bunch of gun toting rednecks. From this new perspective, those Americans appear to have been wise and even prophetic.

It’s a shame. Australia used to be a pretty good democracy.
